On April 28th, 1945, Clarence Beevers was declared missing in action after his plane was disabled and it crash landed in the Pacific about 300 miles away from Japan. Beevers was declared killed in action on April 29th, 1945. Beever’s aircraft was on its return from a successful mission bombing over Kyuahu Island, Japan and Hishiro, Japan. On the return of the mission, his aircraft received battle damage. The plane had to fall back out of formation of 11 other planes. His plane began to lose altitude and went down into the Pacific Ocean. After the plane went down, all 12 men, including Beevers, were declared MIA. There were reports of survivors being seen in life rafts for 2 days, but they did not live long enough to be rescued. It is reported that the weather conditions did not allow their survival. None of the men’s remains were ever found.
